Some days just don’t go according to plan.

Today was supposed to be an office day, but instead I’m working from home because Zuzu woke up with a tummy ache.

Zuzu has a pathological fear of throwing up. The tiniest stomach ache immediately spirals into, “What if I throw up?” Which, of course, makes her stomach hurt even more. It’s a cruel cycle.

We were up all night. Okay…maybe not all night. Probably closer to three hours. But when you’re staring at the ceiling between trips to the bathroom, three hours somehow feels exactly like the whole night.

Needless to say, I am absolutely struggle-bussing through this workday. My brain is running on fumes, coffee and frequent trips to the kitchen for snacks.

Honestly, though, I’m kind of glad she stayed home.

This week’s camp is entirely outdoors. Their welcome email basically said, “Rain or shine, heat, bugs, and sun!” The only exception was that they’d head to a “shelter” for inclement weather.

Well, today’s forecast called for severe storms, hail, and tornado warnings.

Sure enough, the tornado sirens started blaring right around lunchtime.

As I sat safely at home with Zuzu curled up on the couch, I couldn’t help but think maybe this worked out exactly the way it was supposed to. Thankfully, she started feeling much better as the day went on, and the rest of this week’s forecast looks absolutely beautiful. Fingers crossed she can enjoy the rest of camp without any more tummy troubles—or scary weather.

I refuse to go to the salon for removal.

On a completely unrelated note…

Can someone please explain why I am constantly trying to convince myself to book another Disney trip?

Every. Single. Day.

I’m watching Disney YouTube videos. Browsing resort deals. Looking at crowd calendars. Thinking, “Maybe if we just went for a long weekend…”

Today’s no different.

What is wrong with me?

The funny thing is, I know I could probably talk Mike into it if I really wanted to. But I also know…or at least I think I know…that it’s probably not the smartest move right now.

We have goals. We want to pay down the house. We have home renovation projects we’d like to tackle. We’d really love to take a trip to Europe someday.

We can’t do everything.

Well…I suppose we could do everything, but that probably wouldn’t be the most financially responsible decision.

And yet…

I still really want to go to Disney.

Maybe planning a trip is my version of stress relief. Maybe I just like having something magical to look forward to.

Or maybe I’m just one discounted resort offer away from making a questionable financial decisions.

Here are a few kind-a sort-a cute office outfits I’ve been wearing this summer.

Hi, I’m Melody!

46 years old and stepping boldly into what feels like a brand-new chapter. With age has come a surprising and powerful gift: perspective. I’m looking back with gratitude, forward with intention, and doing my best to stay grounded in the beauty of right now. This blog is part diary, part legacy-in-the-making — a place where I capture memories, refine my identity, and reflect on the little things that shape a life.
